Jon Wagar
I returned to North Dakota and worked in the Oil Patch before enrolling at VCSU in the fall of 1975. At VCSU, I earned degrees in Biology and Environmental Science, graduating with honors. I spent nearly 20 years in wholesale building materials sales and sales management before joining A.G. Edwards as an Investment Broker in 1999. Most of my work now involves helping individuals and small businesses with retirement plans and retirement planning. In the past I’ve served on the Board of Directors of the Bismarck-Mandan Home Builders Association, as President of the Sheyenne Valley Chapter of the National Audubon Society, as Chairman of the Trustees of the First Baptist Church of Valley City, as Chairman of the Mayor’s Committee on Building Code Issues, as Valley City’s representative to the City/County Health Board, the Barnes County Weed Board and the Valley City/Barnes County Library Board. I also chaired the committee to explore the feasibility of a new Multi-County Jail Facility in Valley City. I have served as a Valley City Commissioner for four years and currently hold the Police and Fire portfolios. I am in my eighth year as a Director of Crystal Springs Baptist Camp and currently chair the Buildings, Grounds, and Budget Committee, and am in my eleventh year as a Director of the Arc of Barnes County, an advocacy and fund-raising organization for people with Developmental Disabilities. I have been married to Zona, nurse manager at Mercy Hospital, since 1992 and have two grown step-children, Charlie and Sheila. We also have an awesome 10 year old red-headed grandson, Channing. |
